From the childhood one scenario stuck in my mind, the loss of my grandfather to leukemia when no doctor could help and no treatment was successful long enough. This experience had a dramatic effect on my childhood, on my character, and on my career. No longer did I just wanted to sit back; I wanted to play a key role in changing the world and helping many lives. From that time, I have had a dream to become a cancer research scientist.
I had a long road, paved with successes and challenges, which finally brought me to Rutgers, where I am doing my Ph.D. in Biomedical Informatics, applied to cancer research. Even if patients are responsive to treatment optional, the majority of them relapse and develop resistance, which nearly always leads to metastasis and death. For my Ph.D. studies, I want to incorporate my analytical and statistical skills to develop a computational algorithm which could unveil molecular mechanisms causing drug resistance to anti-cancer drugs. I have a rich teaching experience, as a volunteer teacher in the non-profit agency in Bangladesh, where I taught students who were not able to afford primary education. In addition, I also had the experience to teach micro-credit loan in the adult learning center, where mainly the students were day-laborers. This project was facilitated by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, where my responsibility was to teach micro-credit facility so that people can borrow a small working capital and establish their own small business. This project got Dr. Yunus the Novel Peach award for serving the people. As a part of this scholarship, I would like to volunteer and teach a series of 10 lectures on R programming, which is a very popular topic among the Ph.D. student in Health Informatics. My lectures will cover theoretical and practical aspects of how to analyze experimental data, perform data clustering, visualization, and survival
