and I understand the obstacles that they are going through. My passion for helping people led me to work in multiple community services like WILD where I renovated abandoned parks, making it more accessible to the community. I also participated in cleaning the Duwamish River and making sure warning signs are visible for those that tries to fish in the river. I have learned to spend my time wisely. I started
When I first came to Columbia College it was with the intention to work with youth in the foster system. However, after almost ten months and a lot of growth in myself I have decided to not just work with youth, but also families. This is because families are where individuals grow, develop, and build their character. In the work I currently am doing as a family support worker I am most often working with families doing supervised visitation for court orders. What this means is that I transport, observe, and am responsible for the supervision of youth during a visitation.
I became a school counselor simply because I wanted to live a life of meaning and be a force for good in the world. Throughout life, having real and honest conversations that support growth, positive change, and owning responsibility are critical to self-actualization. I want to empower my students to give their best effort in all areas of life, not just their education. I believe that simple encouragement in this type of environment is the key to positive change, and I wanted to dedicate my professional life to reflect that belief. I whole-heartly believe in the holistic approached to a balanced and fulfilling life and being a school counselor is a unique career that fulfills this value.
Just like a quote from “To Kill a Mockingbird”, “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view; until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” I try my best to let people know, that I would never judge them for anything they 've done, and that they can be comfortable telling me their problems and that I will surely help them in any way I can. If I just met the person I put all rumors, or negative things I have heard about them aside and I get to know them myself before listening to anyone else’s opinion of them. I try my best to simply live everyday treating others as I would want to be treated. This has helped me because I have formed many friendships and people don 't hesitate to come to me for help, and I do not hesitate to help them.

Living on modest earnings while providing meaningful work has taught me this and has prompted me to get involved with community services organizations such as CELTS. Through CELTS, I have been given the opportunity to give back to the community that has given so much to me. The most meaningful experiences in my life revolve around helping others, and Berea has provided me opportunities to tutor and mentor young children, provide company to the elderly at nursing homes, and assist patients at the local St. Joseph Hospital. I value these experiences because they have equipped me with the tools necessary to succeed and be a valuable member of my

Being a school counselor put me in a distinctive position to help the teachers in my building and possibly my school district the importance of cultural appropriate instruction. As the molders of our future leaders we have to make sure that we do not short change these learners, they could very well have the answers to some of the most serious problem that fact our world. As a school counselor, I would have to help other educators to overcome some perceptions they may possibility have about girls not being good at math and science. Many African American girls are also living in low-income situations, therefore they have a gender and economic perceptual status to overcome. It is common for people to believe that males are better
Personal Statement for NQT Year I have been lucky enough to have been taught by some truly inspirational teachers and am aware of the effect they have had on my life and the choices I have made subsequently. My own passion for working with young children extends from my desire to emulate these role models and perform the same inspirational function in the lives of my students. I have always enjoyed being around young people and have supplemented my interests in primary teaching with as much work experience as possible. I completed my PGCE Education course and qualified in 2006.
At Marinette High School the school counselors work extremely hard to help students. My school counselor has even helped me overcome my own barriers and obstacles over the course of 4 years. These situations didn’t involve anything personal, such as emotions. However, there were still obstacles and barriers in other situations that my counselor helped me overcome. These include schedules for each year of school, finding and applying for scholarships, and finally getting into college.
I believe that I am able to help others with certain issues as I have gone through many experiences from being at this school for several years now, and I know how to deal with different problems others may be facing now. Even if I have not gone through the same things others have, I still find it quite easy for me to empathise with other people, which helps me be able to think of different solutions to different problems. From helping others, this would also help me to learn and overcome my own
Theoretical assumptions: People used to see career counselling as making a decision in regard to which career path to follow after having one or two meetings with a career counsellor (Krumboltz, Foley & Cotter, 2013). According to Hall (2004) this few has changed over the past two decades and it is clear that career development is not a onetime choice but rather a lifelong process. Savickas (2012) argues that the form of career intervention must change just like the form of work changes to reflect the labor needs of the twenty-first century. Krumboltz, Foley and Cotter (2013) argues that clients must create more satisfying lives for themselves with the help of counsellors. A model of career counselling, the happenstance learning theory, helps
Welcome to my career advice blog for human services, psychology and counseling majors! Almost 7 years ago, I earned my master 's degree in human services. Unsatisfied with current job, I wanted to start a career where I could make a difference in people 's lives.
the unfortunate truth is that not everyone is as lucky as I am to get that chance, around the world there are children who don't have a chance to learn or to get food on their plates, it is our responsibility and destiny in life to help others. I would like to be part of that change in the future, to help those in need and inspire those who are lost. as someone that was born in a third world country I have and an idea of what it is like when you have limited resources. I'm a
