There are about 205,000 people who work as a nurse practitioner in the US. I do not know about you, but I would like to make the number increase up to 205,001. For many young girls, like myself, want to help save lives and we don’t even have to save their life but just help them. This is why a nurse practitioner would be the best job too have. They don’t do major surgeries or anything like that but they do help just enough to keep someone healthy.
What makes me capable of being a nurse is that I have been a certified Nurse Assistant for ten years; I learn many things from my nurse. I feel gratified by going out into the world and serving others. Nursing is about universal care, getting to know your patients, therefore gaining their trust; I believe my empathy makes me a good nurse. When faced with patients, I see the individuals and not just their condition; I get to know the patients indefinitely that I can have a better idea of what treatments best suit them individually. Being a nurse is not always as easy and picture perfect as people paint it to be. A nurse is expected to act perfectly professional, even when tears, anger and all-around emotions are begging to come out. A nurse must always be the one that has their life together, especially when others do not. They are there to be the ones to hold and care for others in desperate times of need. Nurses are expected to be more than just a nurse, but rather an advocate, caregiver, support system and professional.
The first cause of my happiness is my family. They love and care for me no matter what my decisions are in life. Although, we care for each other and we’re always have our backs. However, family is in my blood and they are the people who accept me for who I’m, the ones who would do anything to feel me cheerful, and they love me no matter what. Although, they support me in so many decisions.
I will love to apply to University of Portland because I have this desire and enthusiasm to pursue my dream which is becoming a nurse. I have always wanted this because I love the fact that I'm interacting with people while helping them and changing someone's world. One may ask why so far for nursing but as usually I respond with a smile and explain to them the resources and prestigious classes that UP offers. I’m from Rhode Island which is literally located in the other side of the country but that doesn't scare or stop me. One of my goals is to travel around the world and starting with the beautiful state of Oregon would be a great start.
Nursing is greatly underestimated by society. Society’s perception of a nurse is quiet degrading because they think nurses are just there to babysit and hold someone’s hand, but nursing is so much more than that. Nursing is a very stressful job and it takes certain characteristics to be a successful nurse. Society does not realize just how difficult it is to be a nurse. Nursing is a very demanding job and one must be very patient and be able to adapt well during stressful times.
