Personal Statement: A Career As A Writer

To be an author is to be a thousand different things. It is not a job you can be taught to do well. You can or you can't. Authors create worlds and people and plots and love and hate out of nothing. Depending on your type of novel, you must become an expert on the subject. I most admire fiction fantasy writing. In the case of government-based dystopian fiction (the divergent series, for example), the author must become an expert in government to execute their novel well. Action writers must learn about weapons and bodies and training. Authors have to convey entire universes that don't exist through only words. This is arguably one of the most difficult professions with the least respect. They use a combination of sentence structure, word choice, and more to make you feel emotions. A succssful writer is one that keeps their audience captivated from cover to cover.
While it is entirely possible to pursue this career with nothing more than a high school diploma. Many writers choose to get a degree as going to a creative writing university increases their skill range and connections. A highly respected creative writing program resides in Columbia University School of the Arts. I enjoy having my own space. As an author, I would not have to do my work in a populated area unless I chose to. Along with my spouse’s income as well, we would be able to support our family. A frugal life fits my wants and needs. I have a burning desire to share stories. I always have several stories bouncing around In my head. Authors are very supportive of one another in general. I already have a wonderful community of writers around me from going to conferences and conventions. I have meet authors that have had their books turned into movies and I know how that effects their lives. I have seen their lives and I know that I would love to have
