I was once asked by my 3rd grade teacher Mrs. White, “What is research?”. To an eight year old, what did I know about research? I pondered this question, until I read a quote that I think best answers this question. “Research is seeing what everyone else has seen, but thinking what no one else has thought”. I truly believe that learning is a continuous process. It excites me to know that the knowledge I acquire at Cornell can one day be used to cure diseases and save lives. Alongside my academics, I enjoy conducting research and helping people through medicine. I plan on combining research with my love for medicine to make positive differences both on and off campus through innovative leadership and service to the people around me; I plan to use the education received at Cornell as well as the skills of networking and working with a team throughout my entire professional and personal life.
This summer, I volunteered with an internal medicine physician, as well as third and fourth-year medical students at Doctor’s Community Hospital in Greenbelt, Maryland. The knowledge and experience I gained during this period piqued my interest …show more content…

I was curious to learn more about the functions of her brain, and I wondered if her illness was curable. My interest in the brain and medical research carried on throughout middle and high school. In my freshman year of high school, I was inducted into the Biotechnology Program, I was a member of the program for the three years I attended Largo High School. This highly selective program introduced me to honors molecular biology, biotechnology-chemistry, and microbiology where I learned about microorganisms as well as controlling microbial growth.
