Being a first generation student and fluent in three different languages is something I consider both a personal quality and accomplishment. I fluently speak Arabic, English, and French, now working on my Spanish. Back in Lebanon, my school system taught French rather than English. With the help of ESL programs throughout High School, I feel blessed that I have quickly developed my English language. No one in my family had the opportunity to graduate high school, so I feel very proud that I am not only the first in my family graduated high school, but also first to apply to universities. I am glad to see my father trust and rely on me to run the business for him at a young age. In reasoning I am a leader but in memorizing I am a follower. My volunteering opportunity is also pleasant. I have the pleasure to be active in a health care environment where respect is crucial to success. Through the experience, I learned how to educate, inspire, and make a difference in patient’s life while on the PACU bed. An experience worth mentioning are the nights that I was kept awake by the sounds of bombs and rockets falling from the sky above Lebanon in 2006 before moving to the U.S. The war had a major impact on my life and had me a taste of how living in a war looks like; it was not easy. I was a Palestinian residing in a refugee camp, as a non-citizen in Lebanon, I had nowhere to go. I am thankful for the strength I was given to deal with this hardship. I would run bare footed from one street to another just to accompany the Red Cross and watch the trauma scenes. I will never forget this event; but at the end, I am pleased that it taught me how to comfort others and rescue the injured during this kind of
