In Adams’ quote, he reasons that there are two ideas of an education, one that gives skills and resources to get a job, and another that teaches individuals how to live a fulfilling a life. To me, this quote represents two corresponding outlooks on my own education. I believe that in order to be happy and successful it is important to take these two educations and maximize their potential. In order to learn to make a living you must take advantage of all opportunities in a class, internship, or extracurricular activity. Another major component of learning how to make a living is through networking, where students make social connections with other professionals enrich their present or future careers. Adam’s quote as a tool to maximize my own potential as a student. At Endicott College I would pursue a degree in Finance and/or Accounting, but my degree would not be the extent of the education I aspire to receive. Although I plan to get the most out of every class I take in college by working hard and giving my all, I do not think that the most valuable life lessons will take place in a classroom. Business classes may provide a basis of knowledge in the field I am interested in, and the college itself may set up a fantastic opportunity for me to get a job after graduating, but is that all an education can provide? Going back to Adam’s quote, another form education “teaches you how to live” and I definitely think that Endicott is the kind of place where both education can be provided. One way Endicott seems to provide this other kind of education is through its small community. I think that the small environment that Endicott possesses allows all students to become closer and make stronger connections with others throughout the entire campus. With this small community, I would definitely expect that Endicott students are able to develop friendships and relationships, through athletics, academics, or clubs, that make an impact on their characters and personalities. Character and internal development are very important factors in learning how to live life, and I know that indulging into a social atmosphere meeting new people who come from all different backgrounds can teach me very valuable lessons. These lessons can then teach me about myself and the person I aspire to
