The demand for globalised trade and investment has significantly increased in recent years.
This has meant that there is a need for individuals who are trained in business and completing this degree will allow me to enter the field of business. Books such as 'How the city of
London works' by William M. Clark has highlighted the importance of finances and further expanded my knowledge and interest into why businesses succeed or fail. Programmes such as
'The Apprentice' has enabled me to gain an insight of how the business world operates. I have learnt that business is not about knowing the theory but how to put it in practise. I have also been able to acquire strong communication and presentational skills by preparing and presenting to the rest of the class as well as effectively working in a team. Forming an analysis of business and markets has similarly been an important aspect in this subject which I have been able to undertake along with successfully completing report writing. These skills are vital to possess in ensuring my success at university. In this subject, I am completing several modules such as managing resources, marketing, and financial accounting. These modules directly link to my chosen course which I am determined to extend my knowledge in.
I can reflect further skills in the subjects I take for A levels. For instance, Psychology is the study of behaviour which helps us to understand the meaning and purpose of human behaviour. This relates to business in the sense that humans are directly involved as stakeholders such as managers, employees and consumers. Sociology has enabled me to learn the significance of workplace diversity as well as the norms and values in society. This is important for business managers as it is important for them to understand and deal with
