The question, "Why do I want to join a fraternity?", bears an answer that is always unique and tailor-made to the recipient of the question. Many answers that I have heard include things, such as networking opportunities and social acknowledgement. Nevertheless, I believe the essential reason for joining a fraternity is to share goodwill and ultimately uplift our communities. During my childhood, I was blessed to have multiple male role models involved in my life. I would later come to find out that a few of my most influential role models are members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. With myself working in the teaching profession, I get the opportunity to practice, improve upon, and model these principles on a daily basis around our youth. I am in a relentless pursuit for scholarship in my field of music and education. My desire to become more educated allows me to instill the same ambition within my students to uplift themselves and the rest of humanity. I also believe in and preach to my students about establishing habits of good character. Moreover, those with good character should also seek the fellowship of others with their same values to aid in personal growth and helping others. These aforementioned principles are all qualities that I have seen within the vast majority of Alpha men that I have met or observed. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. also has housed some of our most influential, historical leaders, such as Duke Ellington and Cannonball Adderley in music, Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. and Thurgood Marshall in government, along with John Hope and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in social reform. I personally believe I possess qualities that I can offer towards the advancement on the fraternity. I consider myself to have a tireless work ethic that I can bring to the table, which translates to any service or activities. I am willing to work as a solider in the ranks to assist in any organizational cause, or serve as a leader when creative and new ideas are needed. I also possess a passion for helping others, especially our urban youth. As an educator, I understand the importance of being a good example to young people. If I am blessed enough to become an Alpha man, I will be cognitive of being a positive representative and an ambassador of goodwill for the fraternity.
