The main reason I am applying to the University of Wisconsin-Madison is because I want to be a chemical engineer and know they have an outstanding engineering program. The chemical engineering program at Madison is ranked #6 in the country, and I would love to be a part of it. When thinking of what colleges to apply to with an engineering major, the first school I thought of was Madison. My father is a mechanical engineer who graduated from Madison, and he is always talking about how good his Madison experience in engineering was.

When I visited the campus, I knew right away that Madison is the place where I want to spend my college experience. I absolutely love how the campus has both a city and suburban feel to it. One organization that I really want to be a part of is Engineers without Borders. I love that I would be able to apply what I am learning through my major of engineering to provide solutions to problems in communities all around the world. One issue that some countries face today is being able to have electricity in their homes. Through Engineering Without Borders, I would have the potential to figure out a solution to this problem, like finding a way to turn ocean water into electricity. This opportunity is the perfect way for me to incorporate my love of volunteering into my passion for chemical engineering. Two other engineering groups that I want to look into to make sure I can learn to my fullest potential,and meet with fellow engineers, are the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and the Society of Women Engineers. These organizations would allow me to work with and meet fellow engineers, which I think is an important thing to do in
