DIS specifically tries to create a learning environment where students can learn in and out of the classroom, and I want to use that opportunity to expand my knowledge of the education system, and child development throughout the entire world. Studying elementary education, and multiculturalism is something I am very passionate about, and when I saw the courses that DIS had to offer I immediately wanted to be there working with kids, and studying multiculturalism in a very multicultural setting. I could not think of a better way to get a better understanding of child development and multiculturalism than to be fully immersed in an environment that embodies the characteristics of a multicultural community.

Academically, I hope that I gain knowledge of different education systems in Europe, and how they work better than systems in the USA so that as I study to become a teacher I can apply what I have learned to help improve the school systems. I know I cannot learn everything about the education systems particularly in Denmark, I want to have the most knowledge to help me have a different perspective when I come back. Professionally, I want to be the best teacher I can possibly be, and I believe that comes from my own personal knowledge, and how to make my students want to learn through different practices. Having this experience as part of my prior knowledge that I could bring to the classroom and share with my students. Personally, I know I would grow as a person and be able to see myself differently in a more global context, but also I would feel accomplished being able to say that I lived in a different country even if it was only for a semester, because that is something I have never done before, and change can be scary, but it inspires growth in ourselves and the would around
