"What do you want to be when you grow up?" This is a question we have all been asked. A simple question that puzzled me for a time. In fact, the answer did not become clear to me until I took the opportunity to attend a STEM camp. Nor would have the answer have come if I had not challenged myself with the most rigorous classes available. By taking advantage of opportunities and tackling challenges around me, I have helped myself by paving the way to my future as a Computer Scientist. I mentioned above, I was unsure of my future career until I attended a STEM camp in 8th grade. At this camp, we worked with Lego Mindstorms, a hands-on project involving the construction of a robot, a bit of programming, and a goal to make our robot swim underwater. …show more content…
Computer Maintenance was quite different from Computer Science - but in a useful way. Some days, I would have Computer Science and Computer Maintenance back to back. These were my most exciting days. By being in both classes, my love for computers grew and the vision for a future with technology became clearer. The following year, a grand transition in my life occurred; I moved to Waco, Texas, an eight-hour drive from my previous residence. Moving, I did not know where I was going to live, who I was going to meet, or even what school I would attend. Nevertheless, I knew that I was still going to take rigorous classes like I had before, be involved in school and continue to do what I can to become a Computer Scientist. As I entered a new high school in a new town, I was anxious, but excited. In order to be involved in my school, like I had been at my previous school, I joined Key Club, Computer Science UIL again, soccer, and student council. Each of these activities allowed me to make new friends, and let me become an element …show more content…
Why mobile technology? Simply because it is the future. Along with this work, I dream of becoming a Technology Evangelist so that I may share the beauty of technology with others. At any rate, my vision for my future involves excitement. As you view my resume and even this essay, you will see that I have been involved in numerous activities. You can see that I am an eclectic person. For instance, while I was in soccer, I was in Computer Science UIL and Student Council. Indeed, at school I took the "vigorous" classes. In all honesty, I can ask myself, "Why did I choose to be involved in these activities? Why did I take AP when I could have just taken regular? How did I benefit from these activities?" As I reflect, I realized that by being involved in eclectic groups, I made myself universal and whole. In Key Club, I learned that I loved to volunteer, UIL Computer Science let me learn how to code further than I was learning in class, and sports helped me destress. By not taking regular classes, I have prepared myself for college; my intense course load only helped me. In all, going beyond the norm or expected, I paved the way for my future as a Computer
