I am interested in attending the Marist Criminal Justice summer program because I want to learn more about the many careers in the criminal justice field. A criminal justice-related career is typically displayed on television on shows like “Bones” and “NCIS.” These shows probably do not accurately portray what a job in the criminal justice field is really like because they are meant for entertainment. I’m hoping to learn more about the realistic side of criminal justice in the Marist program. What interests me the most in this field is Forensic Science, the process of solving the crime and how forensic scientists and all of the other law enforcement agencies work together.
This deals with the thoughts, intentions and reactions of criminals. This also includes all that partakes in the criminal behaviour. In comparison to anthropological criminology, psychology deals with everything that makes the criminal “tick”, as opposed to the physical evidence. The questions that I formed can easily be related to the article because they are thought-provoking, and they ask about the actual intentions and thought process related to the crime. All of my questions could explain why certain things happened that was stated in the article, including why cigarettes and money was stolen, why the crime was committed at 4:00 AM, and many more.
Students in the criminal justice department are taught that our main objective in the justice system and our careers is to serve and also protect those involved in our community. For as long as I can remember, my goal in life has been to provide service by protecting and serving those who are close to me. My penchant for service is what eventually led me to the Criminal Justice program at Valdosta State University. While working in the line of duty, the public depends on the law enforcement to protect the people and the community in which they live in. Being professional on and off the clock as a police officer or law enforcement officer can really set the image for yourself as well as your department you represent.
There are three components that make up the criminal justice system – the police, courts, and correctional facilities – they all work together in order to protect individuals and their rights as a citizen of society to live without the fear of becoming the victim of a crime.
