Personal Statement Of Purpose For Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Application

Why do I want to be a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority incorporated?
Since I was a little girl I had grown up on the expectation that once I got to college I would pursue joining the organization Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority incorporated. Because this was instilled in me since I could really talk I never really question the idea. But once I got to college I began to truly question why I wanted to be a member. Therefore, I began to do my research four things have stuck out to me so far. These four things is the program Emerging Young Leaders, the Alzheimer's Disease and Caregiver Support Program, the purpose, and lastly the woman in my life.
The Emerging Young Leaders program struck out to be because as a young girl I would have love the opportunity

I was born to older parents so all my life I have been surrounded by older people. Because of this I have experience plenty of people I know very well diagnosed with the disease Alzheimer's. This is something that strikes close to home because many of family members had the disease or a form of it called Dementia. Even my own grandmother and grandfather had the illness. Although the cure has not yet been found I believe the cure can be found in this generation. Until, than it is my generations responsibility to make sure that we help our elders. This program does just that! I love the fact that the ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority incorporated is so focused on providing help to those older than us. If I was selected as member I would be more than proud to help this program flourish. For example, some of my ideas would be going to nursing homes monthly and playing memory games with the elders, participating in the annual walk for Alzheimer's, and lastly holding programs to get those that are our age aware of this crippling disease. Alzheimer's is something that is real and affects those all around us I would love to be able to play a role in gaining control of

Unfortunately, this generations idles and figures have been misconstrued. Reality TV stars have become role models for many young girls. Young girls have come with the idea that in order to be beautiful they can just throw their body around, get surgery, or do something little to become famous. To many times I have seen little girls dressing much older than they are so that they can look like the girls on the reality shows. These are big problems within our generation and I would love to be able to address these. I would love to be able to let young girls know that as women beauty is more than skin deep. We are not always made to look like those women on TV and that is okay. One of my favorite verses in the bible is Psalm 139:14 “I am fearfully and wonderfully made”. This is something I had to remind myself growing up. The fact that one of the purposes for this organization is aimed towards helping the problems concerning girls and women is major because their are many problems affecting our generation and we need a group of ladies that are willing to fight against it.
