If this is true, then so can be said, many students learn all their lives without knowing it is not a degree they are after. Without knowledge there is nothing that separates us from any other organism. Knowledge gives us life and happiness.
As I sit in University Bay in my kayak, casting towards the rocky shore line millions of students have treaded on in their pursuit for knowledge, I am also sitting over water that millions of fish have swam through, in their pursuit for food. Nowhere else in the world can such metaphor be constructed or an introspective thought about the future be made.
As I drift across the boulders below I can see families of fish, helping each other as the community of Madison does. These fish school together in their respective species looking for food, the young know nothing more than to eat anything that moves, but the older know much more. I can see the glimmer in their eye. I make occasional conversation with the students who walk by. Most are excited by their classes and proud of the work they have put into themselves, but some have a certain guise. They posses that glimmer in their eye, and that smile on their face. They know they will make a difference. They don’t look at what they have created for themselves, instead opting to tell of how they are making a change in others and what kind of a life they want to live in and working towards. They help out the oblivious students with their classes who soon will know it isn’t a degree or even a job they need to be successful in life. It’s impacting others that brings true happiness and brings life to
