Upon my graduation from Sterling High School, it is my intent to attend the University of Iowa to major in biology. I chose to attend the University of Iowa because it is a big ten university close to home with an exceptional biology program (the University of Iowa biology department has access to over 4,500 antibodies to conduct research with). The University of Iowa offers various tracks in the field of biology. These tracks include comprehensive biology, cell and developmental biology, genetics and biotechnology, neurobiology, ecology, evolution, and botany. I hope to stay on the comprehensive biology track because this track includes the entire field of biology and is not limited to a specific area. Also, I am strongly considering participating in Iowa’s pre-dental program. During the summer of 2015 I was given the opportunity to job-shadow at Dr. Ferris’s Dental Clinic. There I was able to observe extractions, crownings, implants, root canals, restorations, and general cleanings. Being able to experience the inner workings of a dental clinic first hand sparked my interest in dentistry. Not only do I want to achieve great scholastic success in biology, I want to be successful in all of my classes. Throughout my high school career I have been driven to achieve high academic standing. Over my years at SHS I have come to understand that my educators are a major resource and support system. At the University of Iowa I hope to achieve similar academic standing and I plan to go out of my way to meet with my professors to use them as the resources they are. Although academics are my highest priority, I also want to have the quintessential college experience.
