Personal Statement On Becoming A Professional Nurse

We were thirteen, barely thirteen when my best friend's arms went numb for the first time, two weeks later she had her first seizure. Years of testing and there is still no answer as to what happened to her. It took a total of 6 months, watching her suffer through testing, for me to decide I wanted to be a nurse and serve others. I am committed to evidence based practice, because I know that I need to fully earn my knowledge and be hands-on, in order to be able to help and serve others. I am committed to working hard in clinical and learning what I have to in order to help patients. My goal is to be the best nurse I can be, and doing well in clinical can help me accomplish this. I want to serve others, and I can only do this well if I have deep knowledge of the craft. Because my mother and grandmother are both nurses, I am well aware that nursing can be a taxing but rewarding career. They both have contributed to helping me understand exactly what nursing will entail. I have grown up watching them serve others, and I want to do the same. I have served in my community in different ways. I have helped clean my church on service days, helped with the soup kitchens, and went along with other church members to help move elderly people into the nursing home. I want to be in a place where I am with others that want to be excellent. I want to learn not only from my peers, but also from my patients. I can learn many life lessons from listening to others, whether it be children or the elderly. I also want to grow in my career and work my way to being the most efficient I can possibly be, in order to give my patients the care they deserve. Becoming a nurse means the world to me, my biggest goal is giving back to others, and I feel that a career in nursing will teach me how to serve others
