Personal Statement “Please try your best to find any treatment option for my child” Mother said to the Doctor while we are rounding on patients in my Neurology rotation. It was an inspiring moment in my life when I heard this sentence. I was a medical student in charge to follow up a child with intractable epilepsy (Dravet Syndrome). I was thinking of how miserable this child with heart breaking complications: behavior and developmental delay, feeding difficulty, recurrent infection, orthopedic condition and sleeping difficulty. Moreover, the suffering is not limited to the child but definitely it affects the whole family by frequent hospital admission of the child, hospital appointment and the high standard care that should be given to the child at home. Therefore, when the mother said that sentence to the doctor, I was feeling how much pain and agony behind these words. Then, I decided to do as much as I can to help them and explore a new treatment options for them. …show more content…

Moreover, Neuroscience is a great area for research and development. The complete cure for many neurological diseases is still somewhat challenging and there are many diseases without full cure to date. When I look to a patient with a chronic disability and functional impairment, I wonder how would their life be, if they completely recover? I hope that, I become a member of that team to provide treatment and hope for these chronic neurological diseases or at least can prevent them from happening. Definitely, this program will give me the ability and confidence to establish a new research project in my future career.
