Personal Statement: Peer Leaders

As a freshman at my high school, we are given two senior mentors known as Peer Leaders. Peer leaders guide and help ease the transition throughout the year for the freshman. When I was a freshman one of my peer leaders was Diana Gonzalez, a current Tulane student. Diana inspired me in numerous ways and helped me become the person I am today. I can truthfully say without her guidance I would not have found my passion in the performing arts and would not have had the inspiration to become a Peer Leader myself this year. When Diana got into Tulane I along with my fellow Peer Leadership members could not be more proud of her. Witnessing Diana go through the college process with somewhat ease, I too realized I wasn’t nervous about deciding where I wanted to apply: I had a solid sense of Diana’s experience at Tulane, but still lacked lots of information about the school. Luckily, last summer I had the privilege to listen to Jeff Schiffman talk at my school about the college application process as well as Tulane. While seeing family in Georgia, my parents and I took a quick day trip to New Orleans to check out Tulane. When I first stepped onto Tulane’s campus, I was impressed by its physical beauty and especially captivated by the bead tree: which not only brightened my day but encapsulated the love and unity I so desire from a college.
