The Qualities of a Kindergarten Teacher My mentor's name is Kristy Rachal, and I have known her for five years. I decided she would be a good mentor for me, because she is an excellent teacher and I trust her. Mrs. Kristy is a kindergarten teacher at Poland Junior High where she teaches fifteen young and rowdy five year olds. Mrs. Rachal told me that a person only needs a bachelor's degree in science to become a teacher. She also told me that being an elementary teacher requires you to be motivated, have patience, and be able to multitask. One of the things Kristy told me about teaching is you have to be motivated. Like I have stated before, children want attention especially while the teacher is talking or teaching. When the teacher is speaking to the students about something fun that will happen in the upcoming week the students get excited, and talk about other things so the teacher has to remind them to listen to the teacher. Mrs. Rachal runs errands and makes copies of the worksheets the students need as well as teach. She said the students can get hurt in P.E. And when they do, she has to call the relative and multitask because she also has to teach the students. If a child is doing something distractive or not following the rules the teacher has to multitask, and tell the student to stop doing what they are doing and then go back to teaching. Teachers listen to what their students are saying, write important important things o the board, and also answer student's questions while keeping the class under control. Mrs. Kristy said lots of times she will write her lesson plans while talking to her peers or her children. Multitasking is another very important ability to have as a teacher because you definitely need it in the classroom as well as outside of
