During this Fundamentals of Management and Organizational Behavior course, I gained knowledge about myself, my leadership skills, and my interests and abilities. I now feel fully capable of developing my personal and professional management development plan to assist me in preparing for my future career. Prior to this class I had planned to become a financial advisor or analyst to help individuals or companies plan for their financial futures. In this paper I will document my interests, skills, strength and challenges and use them to explore a particular organization or industry that best fits me. In terms of verbal ability, that has been an area where I have sought to improve ever since I was a child. I have really improved in that regard ever since becoming a sales associate for Abercrombie. Three years of customer service experience has pushed me to develop my communication skills. I'm currently still working on the ability to speak to larger groups because public speaking is not my strong suit. I plan to focus my career in these areas where I have the strongest abilities simply because I love doing what I am good at. I want to use my ability to find relationships between numbers and reasoning ability to help others with their financial futures. My work motivation comes from extrinsic motivation due to my current life situation. My family is dealing with financial struggles as I am trying to work my way through college. I work 3 while taking sixteen unit semesters merely to acquire the rewards of my job. I know deep down and in my future long term career that I prefer to work for intrinsic rewards. This goes along with my psychological contract and career type as I plan ahead in attempt to avoid stress factors at the end of my college career. Before I apply for internship positions, I also plan on joining the financial management association at San Jose State University to open up myself to more opportunities. This association provides company tours, networking events, weekly professional development meetings, and internship opportunities. This would be a fantastic opportunity to jump start my future career in the field of my major. This class has really taught me about myself more than anything. All the information I have gathered about myself provides me with the type of work environments I would potentially be able to thrive in. Receiving this knowledge gave me even more confidence on my decision to become a finance major. This is the right choice because of my combination of key elements about me: personality, cognitive ability, job design, and teams.
