When the Legends Die Essay In When the Legends Die by Hal Borland the main character, Tom, has shown resentment and hate for most authority figures he has come across. There are different reasons for this including that they’ve lied to him, trapped him, and caused him to damage his pride. After all this he likely feels there’s almost no end to the ways they can harm him, some examples being making him do things that are morally incorrect and making him do things that could cause him long term injury.
In The Graveyard Book, Neil Gaiman employs the hero archetype and a situational archetype of the journey to craft his story. The Graveyard Book follows the adolescence of a living boy named Bod, who can see and interact with ghosts in the graveyard where he lives. Bod is the hero of this narrative as he demonstrates qualities associated with the hero archetype, such as his resilience, courage, and determination. These characteristics aid him in discovering the truth about his identity and dealing with the beings that killed his parents and are pursuing him. The drive of Bod adds purpose and direction to the story while simultaneously displaying the human spirit of overcoming adversity.

The horror story is a uniquely interactive genre. Its main objective is to make the reader feel something, whether that be fear, anxiety, suspense, or any combination thereof. These feelings are evoked with the use of a monster, depending on the story it can be an external source, like a vampire or werewolf, or it could be something inside one of the characters, something in their psyche. In Heywood Broun’s “The Fifty-First Dragon,” local coward Gawaine le Cœur-Hardy evolves to an influential knight through the use of an enchanted word. Sword in hand, he traverses the land cleaving heads off of numerous dragons. Although most can’t relate to Gawaine’s achievements, slaying dragons doesn’t make one invincible to personality faults. Throughout all of this, I could find three personality traits that I could relate to, in agreeable or disagreeable ways. Gawaine and I may share similar traits such as laziness and forgetfulness, however, we contrast greatly with our athletic abilities.
Bod’s Unknown Name by Gordon Sherrill 7b Have you ever noticed that Neil Gaiman never gave Bod a Birth name? Well there are endless possibilities of names but there are ways the name can be revieled. One posibility is that Bod never had a name in the first place because Nobody was a year and six months old that was not enough time to name a child. However we might find out the name later on in the book that is if he ever does meet his birth parents, then they might call him by his original name, but he would not have the freedom of the graveyard there it is only the one he inhabits in. If neither one of these are the case than when and if Scarlet returns there is the possibility if murders caught her fancy while she was out or she might have
This is in chapter one. In this statement Bod gets out of the crib and goes to the graveyard of his own free will.
Edgar Allan Poe’s frightening gothic style poetry and short novels about fear, love, death and horror are prominent to Gothic Literature and explore madness through a nerve-recking angle. The incredible, malformed author, poet, editor and novelist is recognized for his famous classical pieces such as “The Raven”, “Berenice” and “The Tell-Tale Heart”, pieces of work that mystically yet magnificently awakens readers with a gloomy spirit. Awakening the subject of madness through written work was viewed as insane during Poe’s times. In the story “The Boogeyman” by Stephen King, King shows multiple elements of gothic literature such as supernatural beings, monsters or phantoms, intense emotions, gloomy setting and a damsel in distress. Supernatural beings/monsters is the main part of the story, as it is about the boogeyman which is some monster with big claws that hides in closets, waiting to slither out and take its next victim. “I could see something with awful slumped shoulders and a scarecrow head” is how Billings described it when he confronted it. The story is filled with intense emotions when billings recalls the killings of his kids. “Billings's voice had become a high treble, like a child's.
Through the many works, of gothic writer Edgar Allan Poe, vast amounts of Gothic elements can be found; including Cemetery, devil, and grotesque. These elements are hidden in these stories , that Edgar Allan Poe wrote, and are still read and studied today. These elements were chosen because of the way they are whittled into the story, and indirectly expressed. For example the Gothic element cemetery can be described in two different ways, but is the same gothic element. One way cemetery can be described is in a non traditional way it can give the reader claustrophobia.
The 5 things I would look for in a guy would be caring because who show how they feel and have a big heart. The second would have to be he has to know how to cook because I cannot cook and I probably won’t get any better at it and end up eating out all the time. The third thing I would I look for in a guy is he has to be good with kids because in the future I want to have kids and if he doesn’t then that’s a no for me. My fourth thing would be family oriented because any guy who shows love for his family makes him 100 times more attractive, just being able to see him being sweet to his family is a great thing. The last thing I would look for in a guy would be he has to have a sense of humor because I like to laugh and if he’s funny then everything
