Introduction Perfectionism can bring some of the best work and worst qualities out of those possessing this personality trait. Of course we all see the benefits and pitfalls of perfectionism, how hard do we look at the real effects it can have on those with those who have this personality trait. We often can look on inn envy on how organized and seemingly put together a person with a high level perfectionism is, while also imagining how stressful that life must be. But we often don’t look at and understand the different levels and types of perfectionism, and how these aspects of perfectionism may affect a person. Personal standards perfectionism referring to having a set of high standards and goals one sets upon themselves and self-critical perfectionism referring to criticizing oneself heavily and being overly negative about one’s own behavior. By having the students fill out daily questionnaires for a week, the study found that those who were both self-critical (SC) and personal standards (PS) perfectionists were emotionally reactive to decreases in self-esteem (Dunkley, Berg, & Zuroff, 2012).
