Perspective can change a situation entirely. A new set of eyes is all it takes to understand a circumstance better. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest can be taken in many different ways because the perspective one takes about the book. Each situation throughout the book and in life in general can be interpreted differently and perspective is crucial. The characters in the book have formed a mutual relationship with Nurse Ratched that allows them to take advantage of her. They know her weak points as well as how to get the doctor on their side to support them in the battle against her. McMurphy acts out partially for the attention of being the hero in the ward and partially to feel in charge of an aspect of his life that he has no control over. The other patients look up to him as the courageous patient that can help them get their way, which was never possible before. They all want to feel empowered and have the power to make their own decisions and can fulfill that desire by pushing Nurse Ratched around. …show more content…

It can get difficult at times because she has to have enough patience to deal with the patients. This causes her to act with concealed frustration because they are mentally unstable and want to have control in their lives. She is understandable in the sense that she allows them to do what they want, but at this point in the book they are taking total advantage over her because although she says “no” they still are able to convince the doctor to be on their side and change her mind about her decision. She cannot reveal her frustration and fury to the patients because her position in the ward is to advocate and support them through their journeys with their mental
