English novelist Ian McEwan, author of the novel Atonement, once said, “And though you think the world is at your feet, it can rise up and tread on you” (Goodreads 2018) As they grow older and older, teens seem to think that they know everything about the world around them. Teens treat the world like a book, which they have read multiple times. But, they fail to realize that the real world is more complicated than what their minds think. Teens are narrow-minded and naive, which forces them to make rash and irrational decisions. While there might be some teens might be more responsible than others, most of them are careless. Teens have not experienced enough in the real world. In addition, they are not mentally prepared for their life ahead of them and constantly make irrational choices. Clearly, teens are careless. Firstly, teens have not experienced the world around them. They might think they do, but they have barely entered the world as an adult, and haven’t thought things through. It seems that they know everything from the inside, but they are almost like foreigners to real society and how it works. Though they might be developed on the outside, their brain isn’t fully developed yet. Studies have shown that the human brain is not fully developed until early or mid-adulthood. Teens are barely edging adulthood, and make the careless decision with an underdeveloped brain. Their mind is super narrow and they may not think about the consequences of the actions they might make the right decisions. They also might not be able to judge right from wrong, which also. While some teenagers exhibit great responsibility by taking jobs to better themselves or take an extracurricular class to learn more, teens overall are irresponsible and careless. Their existence in the world for at most 19 years is not enough time for the brain to develop
