Throughout the week, everyone’s main focus is on the upcoming weekend. The weekend brings going to clubs, having a couple drinks, and celebrating a good time. While enjoying time with friends and family may not be a problem, drinking may be. Drinking alcohol can decrease a person’s ability to drive safely. Once someone has consumed alcohol, the best choice they can make would be to stay off of the road. If intoxicated, they should have a friend or family member drive them home, spend the night wherever they may be, or call a taxi. As soon as someone who is intoxicated gets behind a steering wheel, both their lives and others on the road are immediately in danger. Every 90 seconds a person is injured in a drunk driving crash (“Ignition Interlock and Drunk Driving Statistics”). Most of the time, the people injured are not always the ones who may be intoxicated. Losing a loved one due to someone else’s bad decision can be distressful. Drinking and driving should never be an option no matter what the situation may be. Drinking and driving is not always taken as serious as it should be. When people decide to drink and drive they are not realizing they can kill or severely hurt an innocent person as well as themselves.
