Amanda Ripley argues in her article, The Case Against High-School Sports, that American high-schools should concentrate less on sports and more on education. One of the main points of the article compares the academic success of American high-schools to that of high-schools in other countries. The other main point of the article compares the academic success of American high-schools affiliated with sports to those that are not. The results of the two studies are both shocking and expected at the same time. America is one of the most affluent and demographically developed countries in the world.
JD Baumann #2 People Should Play Baseball Have you ever wondered which sport to play? Even though there are many sports to choose from, I think people should play baseball. Baseball is a game that you play on a field called a diamond. You play offence and defence. When you are on offence, you hit the baseball that the pitcher throws to you.
Parents every year sign their kid up for club football, but don’t see what they are about to put their kid through. Football has always had head to head contact that violently shakes the brain, which can be fatal. While club football doesn’t always have many hits as the NFL has, but this kids idolize these players and want to be just like them. The NFL needs to eliminate head to head contact in their games because kids are going to start aiming for the head as well.
While some believe that athletes should have their own choice at making a decision to go pro straight out of high school, they should not do so because they will not be able to manage their million dollar contracts respectively. Speaking of contracts, the NBA should eliminate guaranteed contracts for rookies drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. They should do this because a careless high school kid, could just go into the draft not knowing, or caring on how much they are going to make, with the lack of experience on handling millions of dollars. This is very unrepsonsibible for a teenager, and not only for the high school athlete, but also for the basketball association as well. This is because of there noncommitment to have these players
For many years, schools around the nation have focused on sports instead of their academic studies. Many studies show that these activities are harming places of learning. Therefore, districts around the country should stop this after class past time to save money, reduce the child’s stress, and to increase the learners grades As many Americans know, money can help to achieve a great education. In an article “Should Your School Get Rid of Sports”, it was found that “many schools can not afford to repair classrooms due to the lack of funding”(Ripley 10).The biggest events the schools have to pay for are the games, they have to pay for the concession stands, to clean up after the kids who leave their trash and they have to repair the bleachers
Youth football is a sport that is played in various places, many people think that it is not dangerous and kids should be able to play, while others think that this sport is too dangerous and should not be played. Based off of all the evidence that I have found through research, it has let me to agreeing with the fact that youth football is too dangerous for young children to be playing. This sport has pros to it, some of which are very good, but the con side outways it with extraordinary pieces of evidence, these are the things showing that this sport is not to be played at this age and overall. There are a few pieces of evidence and facts that show proof of why it is dangerous and why this can’t be stopped. Some of the reasons are very serious, such as CTE which is a brain disease caused by rapid hits to the brain, this has lifetime affects and changes you in many ways, in worst cases this can even cause death.
The biggest youth issue I’ve seen when I was in middle school and now in high school is people trying to do anything to fit in with groups of people who they think is the popular kids in school. The things the kids do to fit in the group they must do: drugs, alcohol, fight, and kill some people. There is significant amount of teens doing drugs; there are 65% of teens doing drugs in Mobile, Alabama. And there is a significant amount of teens drinking alcohol; there are 73% of teens drinking alcohol under the age. The people who try to fit in aren’t “Being Themselves “they know there doing bad things but the till going to do it any way just be a cool kid that everybody knows.
If that’s the case then what’s the point of being a club athlete at a university? Well there are multiple reasons, but there are a few specific ones that stand out among the rest. Social life, academics and the sport itself are just a few of the reasons students chose to partake in club sport activities. From the social aspect of participating in a club sport “there are really good people involved

From the Friday night lights to the last second goal, school sports are a major part of the high school journey. High school sports are a great way for student-athletes to stay healthy, make new friends, and be a part of a team atmosphere. School sports are a tremendous way for student-athletes to create new, meaningful relationships.
Should kids be sitting on the couch, watching movies, and eating chips all day? What kind of childhood experiences and learning opportunities for growth and development can be attained from being a couch potato? If you really think of it of course; your child is missing out on a lot of childhood experiences. Sitting on the couch, eating chips, is one of the factors to the fact that over one third of the world’s population is obese. In this day and age with professional athletes being at the top of the social spectrum, youth sports have gotten very popular. “More than 26 million children ages 6 to 17 played team sports in 2014(Rosenwald).” Youth sports are very popular because it brings the great feeling of being on a team. When you are on a team you feel like you can do anything together, and nothing is stopping you. There are also many flaws in youth sports.
Nearly all Americans love sports but is it really worth it. In this generation, competitive sports has become more dangerous than ever sports experts are starting to worry that competitive sports has a more negative effect than a positive effect on children. Most competitive sports can lead to severe injuries, pressure which can lead the youth using illegal drugs, and all the money parents spend on their kids to play sports is ridiculous, and worst of all most children are starting to burn out of sports emotionally and physically. Competitive sports do not have a positive effect on all children because of the cost, pressure/injury, and enjoyment. Most people can all agree that competitive sports are awesome, most people root for their favorite teams, they bet on it, and best of all it has amazing health benefits.
Do you ever think about the benefits that you get when playing competitive sports? Well there's more than just fun to it. In this essay I will be talking about Why playing competitive sports benefits you. Some people say that competitive sports are not good because of cost, attitude and injury, Others say it prevents obesity, heart diseases, makes you healthier and happier. So is it good or bad.
Sports, yearbook, student council, and other things like that are extracurricular activities. Even though some people do like those things, most don 't. Like Tiger Woods once said "Don 't force your kids into sports. I never was. To this day, my dad has never asked me to play golf. I ask him.
