THE INTRODUCTION & HISTORY Around the world, millions of people alike indulge in their favorite pastime that involves the worldwide phenomenon, sports. Just in the United States alone, Football is ranked as the number one most popular sport. Using this knowledge to their advantage, three entrepreneurs came up with the idea of Draftkings that changed the way fans and players got involved with their favorite sports teams. Racking in millions of revenue, Draftkings owners Matthew Kalish, Paul Liberman, and Jason Robins stand in disbelief as they inspect their skyrocketing sales. However, unbeknownst to them did the three sports fanatics dream that their million dollar creation would turn into a dragged out lawsuit. A few states are now claiming that companies that perpetuate any type of fantasy sports are now under inspection that it could be violating gambling laws. While fantasy sports owners argue that it is a game of skill, states are examining the issue to see if it can truly be considered gambling. With 33.5 million Americans playing fantasy sports, and many heavily invested into the series, is there a possibility that addictions are forming? Does it truly require skills win a game? Or should the issue just simply go to the U.S. Supreme Court, in order to place a clear distinction to what is considered gambling and what isn’t? While it is true in some cases that fantasy football requires players to analyze statistics and performances in order to play well, there are gambling laws that can be applied to forbid people from playing fantasy sports. In the event that fantasy sports involve high-stakes, it does fall under the definition of prohibited gambling.
