No Littering By: Marissa Kelman Some students might say that it is gross to pick up trash, but really they could just wear a glove. 56% of my class said that they usually do not pick up trash as they walk by it. One solution could be that lunch duty can walk around the campus, or some people could just volunteer to do it, and it would count as community service. Our school needs a stronger trash policy because the litter we make causes pollution, starts fires, and hurts animals. If you drop a plastic bag, you could easily kill an animal on land or in the ocean. For example, when an animal steps in gum, it could get matted in their fur or on their feathers. Some students chew gum after school and in some cases they cannot find a trash can …show more content…
For example, pollution can spread to soil and terrible chemicals can harm the plants. If humans eat plants or animals that have been in near or with the polluted soil, it could have negative health effects on them. This shows that if nobody litters it will be easier for humans to be around plants and animals and not get sick from the toxins. As students know we have some dirt at our school so if each kid will pick up 5 pieces of trash a day our school will be a healthier environment to be in. According to the article http://www.eschooltoday.com/waste-recycling/effects-of-poor-waste-management.html it states “Waste that ends up in water bodies negatively change the chemical composition of the water. Technically, this is called water pollution. This will affect most ecosystems existing in the water. It can also cause harm to animals that drink from such polluted water.” This shows that if we just decrease the amount of littering by 15% it will make a big difference in our world. As the sprinklers turn on the water could be polluted and as some kids run around with it they could get sick from this experience. In addition, the same article states, “Bad waste management practices can result in land and air pollution and can cause respiratory problems and other adverse health effects as contaminants are absorbed from the lungs into other parts of the body.” This shows that if people do not litter as often,
