“How can anyone like running?” “Running is not a sport,” is something I hear quite often as a runner myself. Running is a sport; it’s the main key to success in most sports. Basketball, football, soccer, even tennis require foot speed. However, I actually run for a sport and there are many other people much different than I that also do the same as I in the sport of putting “one foot in front of the other.” I was about 7 or 8 when I ran my first race. It was only a mile, but with me being so young I never noticed it being that long. I had more than enough energy to do it and I won that race in my age division. Majority of competitive runners want to be this. These are the people who win local races and go out and run decent times. These may be local kids to adults. I am close to this category. I can go out and win some races but at the same time I can go out and lose some. Part of it is natural talent that I have or don’t have and the other is training and body type. A good runner is usually a person who can go and run college and compete at that higher level. Many of these people are respected because they are dedicated. They do work hard it’s just that they do not have the body type or talent to reach the next level. Well, a select few may, and if they do they do move on. The good thing about being a good runner is being able to compete with the best of the best in an area or even in different states and areas. It is a great accomplishment to be able to say “I am a good runner”, or hear someone say “That kid is a good runner”. It is something to be proud of because certain people can only make it too this level. Yes many do accomplish this but it only certain workers can be good. These people are usually very successful in something else because of that work ethic they have despite the lack of talent they may
