Imagine living on another planet and seeing the beauty that it offers and the many wonderful things the planet contains that could save humanity. That planet right now that scientists are dreaming of is Mars. They believe that it is possible to live on Mars after a sufficient amount of testing and information they obtained about Mars. An American group called Inspiration Mars plans to launch a married couple to fly around Mars in 2018 and return to Earth. A Dutch group called Mars One is seeking two men and two women to make a settlement on Mars in 2024 (Cook). This issue has raised some tensions between citizens and scientists. It is a very controversial issue that is being thought about today. There are some movies that are set on Mars, …show more content…
If we send heterosexual astronauts, of different sexes and of reproductive age, on extended space missions, then the possibility of pregnancy will loom. After all, going to Mars won’t take a day or even 100 days, as many people think it would. The journey from Earth to Mars takes about 300 days. A solution to this could be making the astronauts the same gender, however they keep thinking about intercourse. Scientists could demand sterilization for any potentially fertile astronauts in a mixed-sex crew, but is this ethical? Furthermore, the space mission of colonizing Mars can create a psychological and privacy problems. After landing on Mars, the need to talk to your family and friends will be impossible. You will be surrounded with those people around you, but this will create social isolation. In terms of privacy, the astronauts would lack physical privacy for the rest of their lives in a tiny habitat on Mars. Think about it, every action of them would be …show more content…
This doesn’t necessarily mean that all human beings should migrate, but a majority of them. However if the Earth is close to dying, then obviously every human being should leave. A benefit of colonizing mars could be shown in this scenario: a nuclear war or other disaster hits the Earth and human civilization is completely destroyed. So everything in history such as all art, progress, science, technology is for nothing. Now consider if the same thing happens, but a small city full of humans about a few thousand are living on Mars. As a result of this, things are going to exist with records of human history, with animals and plants, children and couples. Analyzing both scenarios, we could see in the second one, despite the horrific disaster on Earth, all of human history is not for nothing. There is still human meaning in the universe and that's an incredibly valuable thing. Another example is the dinosaurs. They roamed the planet for 165 million years, but the only trace of them today are their fossilized remains. A colossal asteroid wiped them out. Putting humans on more than one planet would better ensure our existence thousands if not millions of years from now. It’s very hard to imagine having political systems such as capitalism on Mars and just living there, similarly to how we live on Earth. This system is possible, but a lot of work will be needed and the major help will be
