Zoos have always been something that families love and kids look forward to going to. Kids learn about the animals and the habitats and enjoy the entertainment. It is a great experience for people, but not for the animals. Zoos are downright cruel to Animals. Animals our forced to live in an unreal stressful, and boring conditions.
“The animals of this world exist for their own reasons. They were not made for humans any more than black people were made for whites” - Alice Walker. Some of the animals that you see in zoos are not always born in captivity. They can be taken right out of the wild as well. Although zoos are fun to visit, animals should not be held in captivity because the breed can become overpopulated, they do not know how to survive on their own, and they are being abused.
Zoos Should Be Banned Imagine you are five years old, someone breaks into your home, kills your aunt and possibly your older brother in the process of kidnapping you. You are separated from your loved ones, leaving your mother in severe pain and grief. You are taken somewhere unknown, imprisoned in a cell where people come watch you for their own entertainment.
I am for animals being kept in zoos. I am for it because it protects the animals and it also protects people in the process. My first reason I am for it is because it protects the animals. Studies show that animals live in zoos tend to live longer than animals in the wild.
One thing that influenced who I am today is my early childhood. I grew up in Asmara, Eritrea which is a country in Africa next to the Red Sea. When I was only a year old and my sister, Yosan, was four, my parents decided to risk everything and leave Eritrea to come to Chicago. I was raised by my grandma due to my parents departure, when I was about one years-old. Life is difficult for young adults in Eritrea.
This argument is split into three main viewpoints, the opinion that zoos harm animals, the opinion that zoos save endangered species, and a mix between the two. Viewpoint number three is more of a critique how zoos are good places where bad things happen and should be reformed. Each option has its own individual pros and cons but a reform of zoos and their standards would be the most economical for zoos and aquariums and this method would also be the least harmful and less stressful for the animals involved. The care and wellbeing of the animals involved should be the number one priority of all groups and by cutting back on over breeding, the phasing out of lager animals that naturally roam large distances, and creating environments that’s sole purpose is to educate people, zoos can become a better place for people and animals
In the past, zoos have merely been animals in cages, but today we see animals facing real trouble in the wild and are brought to zoos for protection; the problem is that zoos are still being justified as a just and fair thing. Although raising animals in captivity is seen as raising animals in prisons, zoos prove to be very beneficial to many animals; zoos protect animals from extinction, animals raised in captivity outlast animals in the wild, and zoos today perform scientific studies to better aid the animals. Zoos and nature preserves help to protect animals from extinction.
In conclusion, although it is often argued that zoos are abusing and keeping the animals from the wild by keeping them captive, it is apparent that the animals are actually being cared for by the zoos. But nevertheless, animals should definitely be kept in zoos and aquariums because they use programs to rehabilitate animals, focus on the animals well being, and they educate people about animal care. Even if zoos have been controversial situations in the past, the animals are still happy and being well-taken care over. That is why animal populations have grown since 1960 by 60% that were saved by zoos. Zoos should continue on their legacy of helping animals from extinction and health issues because it’s shown that it helps many animal species
Zoos Zoos are keeping animals safe against hunters and other malicious animals. If it weren’t for zoos, thousands of animals would die because of bad habitats, starvation, poachers, and predators. These animals should be kept in zoos because it will md have died because of predators and hunters. Animals are being protected frost likely keep them safe.
Although zoos can be beneficial, zoos should not be around anymore because visitors never really see a animal’s true behavior, they are isolated from other animals, and some zoos pay attention to the attraction of an animal. When I tell people that I’m volunteering at the zoo, the looks I get tell me all I need to know. When I say “zoo”, people think of caged animals, mistreated and afraid, people think of higher ups using and profiting on innocent creatures, people think of roadside attractions and petting zoos. And while uncertified zoos can certainly be corrupt, certified zoos are entirely misrepresented by much of modern media. They play an invaluable part in conservation, protecting individual animal welfare, and promoting education and awareness to the general public. The longer we hold them back with accusations and boycotts, the harder it is for animals in captivity and out to survive.
But that is not the actual purpose of the zoo and it is rare to see those types of zoos. All in all, with the continuing global threats to the atmosphere it is hard for individuals to visualize zoos as something apart from being essential to the long-term survival of various species. Not just in terms of protecting them and breeding them for reintroduction, but to learn regarding them to assist those still within the wild, as well as to educate and inform the general public about these animals and their world: to pique their interest so they will assist or at least accept the necessity to be more environmentally aware. Sure there are many possibilities for improvement, but these benefits are essential to several species and potentially at least. Without zoos, the world would be a much poorer place.
People say that zoos are important for education and are a great way for people to learn about exotic animals (Agnew n.p). Researchers cannot learn as much when animals are captive, you can learn just as much or even more while they are in their natural habitat. While some believe that zoos are important for education, they also believe that zoos are necessary for the survival of species (Zoos n.p). Most zoos claim that they take in extinct and needy animals, most animals at zoos aren’t orphaned, extinct, or injured at all (Zoos n.p). Lastly, one big claim is that zoos help conservation of animals (Borrel n.p).
Imagine you are taken from your home, mother, and environment to a small cage where everybody is looking at you, taking pictures, and having fun. Your owners sell you to a bad zoo where all animals only get food sometimes and the bare cages are cold because you’re getting too expensive to feed and even take care of. This is why I take the position that zoos should be banned because they can cause Animal cruelty, Too expensive, and finding new homes. Say no to zoos!
Zoos play a role in educating people about animals and play an important part in animal conservation.
