What happens when a woman gets raped, resulting in pregnancy? Will she be forced to keep the child that has been seized from this happening? Or will she have the right to their own choice of aborting the child? Doctors, governors, and people have been disputing on whether or not abortion should be legal. All people should have the right to their own life and findings. Although the baby has constitutional rights, there are still many exceptions to abortion. If a fetus is the result of sexual abuse or if certain maternal diseases take place, abortion should be a legal path for the mother to take.

But the pregnancy is a tangible reminder of what she went through—it forces discussion of a topic that they would prefer to keep hidden” (PLAL). The rapist’s intention was to force this huge amount of responsibility and to make this the worst experience for a woman to ever have. It almost seems like the rapist intended to have the woman to suffer with all of these problems and decisions. Having this sort of burden taken away, could make the mother have less weight on her shoulders. Adding on to the idea of how cruel rape is, it could build up this huge mental block. “...the board did not comment on the psychological impact of a pregnancy on the child living the aftermath of rape. There is an overwhelming amount of evidence to indicate the negative impact rape has on the lives of survivors and it is safe to assume that it would be amplified in cases where a child is the survivor and pregnant as a result of the rape” (Padma and Sangeeta ). Pregnancy may not be the cause of cancer, but there are sources like generic roots. Some cancer treatments can be harmful to the baby. “Doctors use chemotherapy drugs to destroy cancer cells... There is a risk of harm to the fetus if chemotherapy is given in the first 3 months of pregnancy… Chemotherapy during the first trimester carries risk of birth defects or pregnancy loss” (ASCO). Women who are diagnosed with breast cancer face a tough question of letting herself live or the fetus. Chemotherapy is one of the stronger treatments to tackle larger tumors. If the tumor is extensively large, chemotherapy is one of the treatments that is most recommended. Yes, it will be hard for the woman to kill her child, but logically talking, doctors will advise her to terminate the baby. “Treatment choices can become complicated if there is a conflict between the best known treatment for the mother and the well-being of the baby. For example, if a woman is found to have breast cancer early in her pregnancy and needs chemotherapy right away, she may be advised to think about ending the pregnancy” (ACS).
