Testing on animals
Testing on animals for human gain has been going on for centuries, and the process is not any more caring now than it was 100 years ago. Animals are treated poorly, and then more often than not they are destroyed. There are more humane ways for this testing to be done, and it needs to be implemented immediately.
“How can painfully and artificially inducing human diseases in other species with a different genetic make-up to our own possibly advance the cause of modern medicine?” (Howe)
New studies have been performed proving that mice are more genetically different from humans than we once thought. Before genome mapping was available, scientists believed that since they had discovered a few similar genes, all mammals were genetically the same. With new information, and a complete mouse genome, scientists now realize that there are a large number of genes found only in mice, and not in humans. "These new findings are extremely important in helping us to separate genes that underpin biology that is the same across all mammals, from genes that make humans and mice so different from one

They believe that without these trials there would be no way to test the safety of medications that we may someday give to humans, and that the sacrifice of a few animals is worth saving thousands of humans. However, I believe that no life is disposable. Every creature has its place on this planet, and in the delicate web of life. Why should a rabbit, dog, cat, or mouse be any less important than a human? “Most people agree that animals have at least some moral status – that is why it is wrong to abuse pets or needlessly hurt other animals.”(HOPES) When a child is sick, they go to the doctor. When an animal is sick, they go to the veterinarian. Who are we to choose when a life is important, or when it is
