Within society, there are those that take time to help others in their community through volunteer work. Some people volunteer for self fulfillment while others do it to help them prepare for a career. People can volunteer in different fields to help them determine what career they wish to pursue, such as medicine. Volunteering to become more prepared for a career has many beneficial effects that can help a person gain an advantage later during medical training. There are many places and organizations that allow aspiring medical professionals to volunteer in order to make connections. Volunteering at a local Humane Society clinic or a local hospital can help you form connections and relationships for a future medical career (Robinson and Segal). A volunteer could also accompany the doctor of veterinary medicine or the medical professional they volunteering for to a medical conference. This allows the volunteer to form connections and relationships with medical professionals from different parts of the state or from all over the country. The connections a volunteer can make will help them secure future jobs or acquire recommendations that can further the volunteer’s career path. Many Veterinarians and hospital administrators will hire former volunteers because they have volunteered there in the past. These veterinarians and hospital administrators can also offer recommendations for the volunteer to use for their desired job with a specific medical field.
