I have always wished to serve this country, and be a doctor; but how can I do both? The answer lies here: in today’s society, there is a need for doctors; there is also a need for servicemen and women. However, as a doctor, I most likely shall serve in the army reserves or National Guard, so, I may be able to serve military men and women, serve the civilian populace, and serve my country. In today’s society, healthcare is a growing concern. We have many options: Humana, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicare, Medicaid, and now Obamacare. However, there is one insurance company that is overlooked a lot in today’s society, Tricare. This poses a problem, not just for me as a person who wants to be a doctor, but for families of servicemen and women. Historically, this nation has always had healthcare for the servicemen and now women; even though it has been a hassle/problem. It was not till recently, families were allowed to use the military’s healthcare system as well. However, back in 2001, near the wake of the recession, an alarming trend was noted by, Henry H. Shelton, in his article, “Military Health Care System,” “Throughout our Nation's history, healthcare has been a prominent issue for the military…During the past few years, the Joint Chiefs of Staff have put forth a concerted effort to work with the Congress and the Administration to ensure that TRICARE provides high quality healthcare.” Indeed, it is wonderful to see, our Nation’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, working together to provide a ground work/path with Congress to make sure Tricare provides high quality healthcare.
