It has always been a struggle to find people willing to join the military, willing to lay down their lives for the greater good of our nation. As Donald Maxwell reports, “... n the military of the United States during the Vietnam War faced a dilemma. In the preceding decade, tens of thousands of them had immigrated to Canada—both legally and illegally—to resist compulsory military service.” (1). That's why the military offers so many incentives, such as free college, a pension, etc. However, the Department of Defense is facing problems in finding a way to enroll more people into the military, this can be solved by requiring all citizens to go through basic military service training for preparation as reserve troops and act as a bridge into life in the military, which not only benefits the country in times of crisis but the citizens as well with their own personal gains. The Department of Defense needs to go to Congress and propose a bill that requires mandatory military service/training then this bill has to go through the entire process and becomes a law. Once this happens the Department of Defense have their indirect solution. This new law would require all citizens to attend military service training, this training requires all citizens to meet a certain criteria made set by the military. Citizens stay in training till they meet the required standards, after that they are taught basic military knowledge. Each year citizens a called back for a “check-up” where they must test to see if they meet military standards. If they do not meet the requirement they go back into training.
