There are people all over the world who are struggling with being gay. It is in schools and jobs. Gay people are everywhere you look. On TVs, in movies, and especially schools. But now there is a new struggle for gay people. Openly gay students are facing hard battles in schools. Being gay in a religious school and whether or not they deserve the right to be recognized. Religious schools especially don’t openly accept them as students. But now, they want to be accepted in religious schools where they are looked upon as sinful individuals. They are arguing over discrimination and whether or not religious schools should be forced to have LGBT groups in their schools. Religious schools used to be able to exclude homosexual personal without a fuss because of their 1st amendment right. Schools are now being told that they should spell out their policies on homosexual behavior instead of prohibiting “immoral sexual behavior”. “The nation's Muslim schools typically do not explicitly mention homosexuality in policies, according to Nabil Sadoun, a Dallas-based educational consultant for Muslim schools. “They talk about maintaining an Islamic lifestyle. It implicitly rules out homosexuality or other lifestyles that are not allowed in Islam," he said. Despite the flurry of activity, gay-rights advocates generally don't expect religious schools will lose their right, under the First Amendment, to cite homosexuality in admission or expulsion decisions” (Zehr 28). In other words Mary Zehr is saying that no one honestly believes that religious schools will lose their right to exclude gay people if their behavior goes against their teachings.
