According to Planned Parenthood, 3 out of 10 women in the United States will have an abortion before they turn 45. That means that out of the 157 million women living in the United States, 47,100,000of those women have or will have an abortion in their lifetime (United States census bureau 2010). This proves that abortion is an incredibly imperative part of women’s health care. Having a child is not an easy feat and those who don’t have the resources to raise a child should not be forced to carry out a pregnancy. Anti-choice activists have been using shame and violence to promote their cause for years on end. While pregnant women can expect nausea, vomiting, constipation, and much more, post-partum symptoms include vaginal soreness as a result of a vaginal tear, urination problems, hemorrhoids, and even fecal incontinence. Not only does pregnancy have a huge impact on a women’s physical health, but the effect that an unwanted pregnancy can have on a women’s mental health is disastrous. Along with the risk of health issues for the pregnant women, there’s also the possibility of issues for the potential child. With tests such as amniocentesis available to women, doctors are able to predict if a newborn will be happy and healthy.
