Almost everyone wants to have their own loveable puppy or kitten. Not many people are aware 2.5 million animals are euthanized in shelters each year. Killed because no one wants to adopt them. You can adopt from a shelter or a rescue group or you can buy from a pet store or from a breeder. There are many reasons why you should adopt rather than buy from a pet store or a breeder. By adopting a dog from a shelter, you will not only save a life but you will save a lot of money and you will be taking a stand against inhumane, uneccsary, and irresponsible breeding. When you adopt from a shelter, you are saving a life an abandoned dog. By choosing to rescue a dog from a shelter instead of a buying from breeder you are actually saving two lives.. This is just one rescue group in the state of Missouri that has dogs available for families to take home. There are more than 10 rescue groups and shelters, such as St. Louis Stray Rescue, Open Door Animal Sanctuary and Diana’s Grove, that are located in the St. Louis area that have hundreds of pets that have been abandoned that are in need of homes. Some shelters to choose to euthanize healthy animals that may have been in their care for awhile to free up space for what they consider a more adoptable pet.
