Imagine losing a loved one because a procedure that was successful on animals showed fruitless results when performed on humans. Sadly, this is the case for countless families. According to the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA.org, “92 percent of all drugs that are shown to be safe and effective in animal tests fail in human trials because they don’t work or are dangerous.” The reaction of animal testing could differ from those of humans. Furthermore, millions of animals each year are tortured for this unnecessary testing. In sake of these poor animals, animal testing needs to be made illegal in all 50 states. In March of 2016, six men were rushed to the hospital, several suffered permanent organ damage, in addition to other injuries. Why did this happen? These six men were injected with TGN1412, a drug intended for treatment of B cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia and rheumatoid arthritis. TGN1412 was deemed triumphant after having outstanding results in animal tests, but where did it leave humans? Dying, in hospital beds (huffposts.com). Numerous other tests ran on animals have the same outcome. Since animals and humans are different species, they’ll produce different outcomes. In a recent article by the New …show more content…
Animals have helped make medical breakthroughs in the past. In some cases, animal testing has played a vital role in medicine. Discoveries like antibiotics, anti-depressants and a few others relied solely on the use of animals. According to the Huffington Post, “Over the past 40 years only one Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine did not depend on animal research for the fundamental discoveries.” For this reason, animal testing is a very controversial topic. However, “the mounting evidence shows that using animals today is largely ineffective in helping us understand human physiology, predicting human toxins and finding useful drugs.’’ (Animals and Public
