Persuasive Essay On Animal Testing

1232 Words5 Pages

As animal experimentation advances; it has become a highly prevalent and controversial topic being debated in society. Animal testing is conducted primarily by medical professionals for research to uncover new surgical procedures and to determine the safety outcomes of materials (“Animal Experimentation”). Animal experimentation has highlighted the significance of the concern of many individuals due to the negative impacts it leaves on various species. According to a survey conducted in 2015, 67% of Americans are unsettled and perturbed about animals being experimented on for research analysis (“Americans’ Concern”). The spread of individual views concerning animal testing on social media platforms has attracted the attention of scientists. …show more content…

Various factors impact the inaccurate information that is established during animal experimentation. Incorrect results from animal experimentation have the potential to be influenced more as the utilization increases by scientists. Professionals have disclosed that “nine out of ten drugs that appear promising in animal studies go on to fail in human clinical trials” (“Results from Research”). This statistic illustrates how more than 90% of the information tested in laboratories does not accurately compare to humankind. The differences in biological structures between an animal and an individual causes more difficulty when discovering beneficial similarities. Unfortunately, this can cause unpredictable results that can prolong the forthcoming treatments and cures for scientists to discover due to incorrect information collected. In a study, researchers have reported that “out of 93 dangerous side effects, only 19% could have been predicted by animal testing” (“Arguments against Animal”). This displays how a majority of the data concluded during animal testing is not functional to the public because of the limited positive outcomes. There are innumerable obstacles and challenges that scientists are faced daily when conducting medical research. For instance, when researchers were analyzing cancer medications over 93% of the materials that were executed successfully during animal experimentation …show more content…

Animal testing is managed to improve society’s health to reveal new treatments to prevent the advancement of deadly diseases. The medical examination by scientists in laboratories is taken into consideration for the explanation involving cancer, diabetes, heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and many more. Researchers have reported that “cows helped create the world’s first vaccine, which in turn helped end smallpox” (Foundation for Biomedical). This demonstrates how a widely affected disease called smallpox was resolved by animal experimentation benefiting individuals of all ages. It reflects the effective impact animal testing has on preventing more casualties of individuals across the nation. While this may be true in some cases, the negative consequences resulting from animal testing are exceeded. According to researchers, there are abundant non-animal testing alternatives that have been discovered including cell cultures, human tissues, computer models, and human volunteers (Cruelty Free International). This displays the available sources that can be used for experimentation which ensures scientists are following the safety guidelines at all costs. This is significantly effective because it reduces the chemical toxicity animals experience and helps scientists view the different results tested which they can compare to other methods utilized.
