Animal Lives Matter Each year, more than 100 million animals are killed in U.S. laboratories for animal testing. That is more than the 80 million people killed during World War II. Since 200 BC, scientists have been testing animals just to satisfy their curiosity on how animal bodies work. Well what is animal experimentation? Animal experimentation is the use of non-human animals in labs that seek to control the variables of the behavior or biological system under study. However, animal testing is not as innocent as it may seem. First, animals should not be in research labs because the pain, suffering, and deaths of these animals are not worth human benefits. Furthermore, there are numerous alternatives which makes testing unnecessary. Third, animal research is a waste of government money and is too expensive. According to neavs.org, there are many other alternatives like vitro testing which are cellular tests done in tubes. Vitro testing is one of the many reliable alternatives because it uses real human cells without pain, resulting in more accurate outcomes than animal testing. With alternatives we can still have the same outcomes as testing animals, but it’ll prevent them from being in labs. Animal tests are completely unnecessary and are only used for human convenience. Although, some may say other alternatives won’t provide the opportunity to study interrelated processes occuring in the nerve, endocrine, and immune systems. The fact is, there are still other ways to study substances in different human systems without the use of animals. For example, microdosing, a study that administers small doses of a substance that is too small to have a harmful reaction on humans. Are animals really needed for testing if there are other options?
