WASHINGTON- Congress on Monday passed a law in a unanimous decision to ban the popular video game Fortnite, after recent backlash against the game from several groups of the American public. Fortnite, the extremely popular game available to play on console, computer, and mobile devices, has been a hit in the gaming world and American culture. More specifically, the game’s Battle Royale gamemode has been the key for the game’s overall success. The game’s objective is simple: to be the last to survive in a virtual world filled with 100 other online players. Each player uses both weapons (such as guns) and materials (to build fortresses) to ultimately be the last to survive in the virtual world. The main advantage of winning the game is to not only add a win to that someone’s résumé, but be able to be the cool, rad kid at the elementary school cafeteria. Or even the workplace. The wives and girlfriends of their significant others have seen the devastating effects of the addictive nature of the game. Fortnite players with loved ones have given fewer amounts of attention to them due to the games addictive nature, which has not gone unnoticed. “All my boyfriend does is play that’s stupid game! I wish he could stop and pay more attention to me. It’s ruining our relationship.” says Grace S., whose boyfriend is a daily Fortnite player. This has even driven a movement by a concerned individual, to ban Fortnite altogether. On a change.org petition, Ana Gonzales calls for the end of Fortnite, defending herself saying how “it is the cause of the ending of relationships, friendships, even the cause of losing YOURSELF!” She continues, stating how the lack of attention and “texts back” are directly caused by the addition of Fortnite by “our crushes, significant others, and/or siblings”
