“Two wheels. Four wheels. Eighteen wheels. We all have the same rights on the road.” I once heard a commercial state this. Why not make sure that cars and trucks do not forget this rule? Bikers need to be able to ride safely, and not have to constantly look over their shoulder for a crazy driver. Bike lanes offer a solution to this. They promote exercise, reduce pollution, and can help towns enforce the speed limit. One of the reasons we should have bike lanes is that they promote exercise. Biking is an excellent source of exercise. It strengthens your calves, hamstrings, and feet. This can awaken your body, so you are ready to start your day afterwards. This especially helps school-age children, since we walk around our school to get to classes every day. This also will enable the town to hold bike races for charities, which helps out local nonprofits and organizations. …show more content…
Biking is a form of transportation that doesn’t burn gasoline or oil, which is conservative and healthy. Cars and other motor vehicles do burn gas, which is released and dirties the air. School buses especially contribute to this, since while they stop and wait for kids to get on, they keep their engines on and continue to burn gas. All this pollution is harmful to humans. Too much of it could lead to lung cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and emphysema. If more people biked, then there would be less gas burned and the air would be cleaner. That would help our environment out a bunch. Furthermore, bike lanes will help the town enforce the speed limit. One study shows that drivers are less likely to drive fast on narrow roads. If we take part of the roads and dedicate it to bike lanes, then it will make the space for cars and trucks narrower, forcing them to drive slower. This will prevent accidents involving speeding cars. With all of the curves, hills, and twists in Ridgefield, this could be a solution to one of our largest
