Should People Stop Consuming Bottled Water? A majority of people consume bottled water all around the world. If one does not have access to clean and safe drinking water or has zero access to water in general, then bottled water is a fantastic solution. However, many people today consume bottled water as part of a lifestyle and people may not always be conscious of what they ingest or where the waste of consumption really goes. I believe that people should stop consuming bottled water as most bottles are not being made into other bottles, bottled water is costly, and many bottled water contains toxins. Society may not know how much of what is put in the recycling is actually reused. Once people toss things out, many may think of it as an out of sight, out of mind situation making it no longer a problem. This is not the case because “rather than being recycled into new bottles, the vast majority of beverage bottles are exported to plastic manufacturers in emerging markets and used to make synthetic fabrics for clothing” (Wong). While it is great that the bottles are being turned into other useful products, they are not being used for new bottles. With the amount of people who consume bottled water on a daily basis, they may stop consuming the vast amount that is purchased or start drinking the tap water that has more regulations. Additionally, there would be less plastic waste that will be contributing to the pacific garbage patch or the few landfills that are left in the United States. If more people were aware of what bottled water contains, society may think twice the next time they reach for a bottle of water or give one to a child, as society may be poisoning the next generation just by drinking
