Cheer, what comes to mind when you think cheer. Most people would consider it not a sport, but I am here to tell you why I think it is. Not just because I’m a cheerleader, it’s my opinion and my firm belief cheer should be recognized as a sport. Many people get injured and you have vigorous training that in most cases could be harder than training for basketball, for example. Cheerleaders have to be able to throw people not just a ball. That requires a lot of conditioning and sometimes occasional injuries. Cheerleading is a very dangerous sport that in my opinion deserves to be treated like it is a serious sport. I bet the majority of people probably think cheerleading is just standing on the side lines but it’s more than that. Many people don’t see the hours of day in and day out that we train. I think that people don’t even really know that cheerleading consists of competitions just like any other sport. I am a firm believer that if more people would start to look at it like a football team or a hockey team, we would have a lot more people supporting cheerleading as a major sport. First of all, if people were to do this, cheerleading would start to be considered a major sport in more areas and get recognized as a sport that more people want to get into. Take the super bowl, for example, I mean sure it’s about football, but what about the cheerleaders on the side lines.
