Pokémon is a Japanese franchise revolving around the titular Pocket Monsters where the name derived from. They began at first with their Pokémon Red and Green games, releasing in Japan on February 27th, 1996 on the Nintendo Game Boy handheld gaming console by Game Freak, followed by the North American release of Pokémon Red and Blue in North America along with the television show, the trading card game, the book series, etc. all in 1998 (Shinn.). By the time it was reaching the United States and the rest of North America, it was already a massive franchise over in Japan, but what they didn’t know was just how massive it would grow in almost 20 years. With so many different aspects to it, with kids of all ages being able to grow up and enjoy it, to a point we had never seen in precedence before, there is reason to look at this franchise in an in-depth manner and to see the different ways that it has impacted our culture and the people. Literally millions of people play these games, and the franchise does not look like it will be slowing down in terms of growth or people that will pick up these games, pick up a book, buy some trading card packs, or watch some episodes anytime …show more content…
I say “to what extent” because it is undoubtedly correct that we have had Japanese influence in the U.S, but we don’t know how much have we gotten from Pokémon, and the structure I chose for this question will help us understand this phenomenon a bit
