Climate Change Climate change is a very intricate and complicated subject. While scientific research points to a very clear risk to the future of humanity and the environment, the government and the society’s responses to the problem have been rather weak. Climate change is one of the leading causes of animal and plant extinction, and without political and public help, this could grow to even greater circumstances. To solve this, the US government should enact a law stating that companies need to have energy efficient appliances in stores and should also renew the energy-efficient appliance rebate program. Climate change has an enormous effect on the environment and our society is in need of a permanent solution. When climate change takes place …show more content…
Energy-efficient appliances have been around for some time now; although, without the government stepping in, few people know about them and even fewer decide to put them in their homes. If more people were educated about the technology used in these appliances, more people would assuredly purchase and use them in their homes. Inverter-based technology is what is used in these energy-efficient appliances. This allows home appliances to be more efficient when using energy and water. They also save approximately 60% more energy than conventional models (Kithany 25). With the ample amount of positive evidence about energy-efficient appliances, the government should have no quandary in passing a law. A law stating that companies need to have these appliances on hand and in stores for all customers. Another thing the government can do is renew the State Energy-Efficient Appliance Rebate Program. This program happened in 2009 and with funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) came up with the State Energy-Efficient Appliance Rebate Program to invest in energy savings by helping people replace older appliances with new, more efficient models. This provided about $300 million to the U.S. states and territories to support rebate programs for …show more content…
Which is why the government needs to step in and create laws, veto old laws, and even renew old programs to keep the planet safe. With the political power stepping in and the public power speaking up, it is certain that climate change can and will be stopped.
