On D-Day one beach alone cost the Allied Forces three thousand lives, due to underestimating the effects of the Germans. Meanwhile just seven people from ISIS, three of which were suicide bombers, killed over one hundred thirty people, and injured nearly four hundred others in Paris, France this November. Why did the Allies continue to storm the beach, even sending in reinforcements if they knew that there would be massive casualties; and why would ISIS send seven people to Paris, three of which having certain death, if they knew that they were all going to be killed? They send them to try to prove a point, and defy the odds. If the Allied forces would have pulled out of the Normandy Invasions (commonly known as “D-Day”), there might not have been a momentum shift on the eastern front of Europe. Heading into the June 6th, 1944 invasions, Germany had controlled all but three non-neutral countries in Europe, including France which was a major loss for the Allied Forces. D-Day served as the first major win for the Allied Forces, and gave them confidence throughout the remainder of the war. Even when the soldiers on the beach were gasping for air, watching as their friends dropped to their knees, they obeyed the orders, and continued to push further and further. Every Allie soldier on the beach that day was trained to take the beach, in all means necessary. Even if it would have taken a third, or forth wave, the Allies would have fought tooth and nail until every last inch of the beach was secured. As they seized more and more of the beach, their confidence levels rose higher and higher, giving them a greater will to work.
